PERSONAL INFORMATION |
Details |
Charles Philp was born on 17 June 1924 in Dunfermline, Fifeshire, Scotland, son of Charles Philp and Christina Cook. Little is known of his early life, but it appears he joined the Air Training Corps whilst at school. On 01 March 1943, he attended No.25 Air Crew Selection Board, probably in Edinburgh, and was recommended for training as an Air Gunner in the RAFVR. On 17 June 1944, he lost his life in air operations over Germany. It was his 20th birthday. He lies now at the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery at Kleve, Germany, plot 17.C.10. His headstone reads, simply, 'GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN' Philp Family |
