The aircraft was lost without trace on a ‘Bullseye’ training exercise. It was probably shot down by flak or nightfighter somewhere over the North Sea. There are accounts from other aircraft seeing a bomber go down in flames – this may have been ND403.
The crew are all commemorated at the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey; Johnson on Panel 219.
